VISITING NEW YORK

By Mike Hoven

I visited New York for the first time and was looking at tall things while waiting to cross the street when a lady did a pirouette right in front of me and said, "And that's on a good day!"

I blinked at her, and accidentally made eye contact, and accidentally made a friend. She began to tell me about martial arts and a man who was tired of his nose running, but I think she was projecting because her face was covered with snot that she had tried to wipe away but it was still running directly into her mouth.

I crossed the street, walking quickly and weaving between people but she kept pace, telling me how Eldridge Cleaver (or something) was the one who first turned her on to all that. So I ran to the end of the block and crossed to the other side of the street, and she found some guy with a backpack to talk to.
