ReallySmallTalk Suggests: Avoiding pessimists who want you to meet them across town so they can talk about themselves while you sit quietly with a polite smile, trying to conceal a healthy rage about the time you're both wasting in a life that is finite...a life that will not last forever. Barring times of need like the death of loved one, miscarriage, or bad news from the doctor, of course. Of course, yes. Christ, we're human. But it won't be about something as life-and-death when you go to meet up with these people, is what we're finding. It will be a grande- skim cup of of 'I still hate my job' or a plate of grilled 'My love life still never works out, but I'm glad I have you', or maybe just a side order of 'I can't win for losing' and a couple shots of 'My ego on the rocks'. Who needs it, frankly. Our time here is short. I am 37 today. Feels like only four years ago I was seventeen.
