STABBED

First shouting, then Jill stopping, then a black kid telling us the guys across the street had knives.  Early morning, late November, Chelsea.  “Let’s go,” I said.  “Let’s just go.”  I ignored the kid.  Not Jill.  “You be safe,” she said.  She patted his head and thanked him for the warning.

FAME

by Joseph O'Brien

Once, as a bartender in New York, I waited on Gallagher. It was the original Gallagher, not Gallagher II. He seemed drunk and had that little beret on that he always wears. He had a pretty hot girl with him too. He threw a lot of money around and I was surprised because I couldn’t imagine he was that rich. The funniest part was when sound guy from the club came up with a Snickers bar in his hand and sat and talked to me for a few minutes before his entire expression changed and he said, “Is that Gallagher?”
