RECENT INCIDENTS IN MY LOVE LIFE #5
by Lucy Baker
I’m in a cab on a date. It’s a first date with this guy, Scott, and it’s going well. So well that I’m not even thinking about how it’s going. I’m thinking about the fact that my knee is touching his thigh.
We aren’t talking but the silence is comfortable. Silences are always comfortable in cars. Out the window, the city is tumbling past, the pedestrians and lights like an endless series of bouncing balls.
Then we stop at an intersection and the cabbie switches on the radio. The theme song from Grease comes blaring out of the speakers like a bull out of the gate.
We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong!
Remembered forever as shoo-bop sha whada whadda yippidy boom da boom!
I tell myself that if he never calls, this is why.
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop that's the way it should be!
Waoooo Yeah!
