SUMMERTIME, AND THE LIVIN' AIN'T ALWAYS EASY

By Kim Bosch

I've noticed a few things since I've temporarily returned to my parents home to
live in the small town I grew up in. There are things you cannot run away from.
Never. They come back at you like a boomerang that's circled the world.

1) I visit my local library:

I haven't been in this building since I was in grade school and the smell
automatically brings me back to the Jazz class and Ballet class I always went
to but never excelled at. I wanted to take Tap dancing. Tap shoes were way too
expensive. I did glue pop caps to a pair of my socks once, but that wasn't very
comfortable.

I go up to the counter to take out a book:

Librarian: "I guess you're not still a student at Good Shepherd Catholic School..."

Me: "no."

Librarian: (looking at me closely) "What high school do you go to?"

Me: "I was at Dr. Dennison, but I'm not a student anymore. I'm 23."

She then went on to say she remembered me, she was my ex-boyfriends neighbour. Was I still with Matt? Did he move back to Montreal? What happened to us?

Me: "I grew up."

Librarian: "Well you still look 18."
